5 Pricing Ideas to Steal This Week
1. Adjust AI Limits (Renderforest)
Renderforest made a series of moves to differentiate the Pro plan from the Pro AI plan. Combined, these moves suggest they’re looking to drive conversion to Pro and change how they differentiate AI across plans. Here’s what they did:
First, they reduced the discount on Pro AI from 50% to 20% effectively raising the monthly price from $19 to $30. Notably, they kept the discount for the Pro plan at 50% — making it look more appealing.
Second, they doubled limits on the Pro plan for AI Credits, which gives users more access to AI videos and Images. By holding the limits on the Pro AI plan the same, they further increased the appeal of the Pro plan.
Lastly, they doubled the limits on AI Text-to-Speech on the Pro AI plan, creating a new differentiator between Pro and Pro AI.
These changes signal a push towards adoption for the Pro plan, and a push towards monetization on the Pro AI plan. I’d argue they should take this further, boosting the AI usage limits for the Business plan and raising its price to make Pro AI look more compelling as well.
👉🏼 Steal this: Use AI limits and prices to quietly prioritize your plans and reshape where customers land.
2. Consolidate Plans (Clarifai)
Clarifai reduced its plan mix, consolidating from 5 plans down to 2. They replaced the Community, Developer, Essential, and Professional plans with a single Pay-as-you-Go plan. The update removes all usage thresholds and monthly commitment requirements, and drastically simplifies the decision-making process for new customers.
Along with being more customer-friendly, the new model is a better fit for Clarifai’s position as an AI infrastructure platform.
👉🏼 Steal this: Review your plan mix to see if there’s an opportunity to simplify and make it more customer-friendly.
3. Add a Value-Driven Banner (NordVPN)
The “Most Popular” or “Recommended” banner is a staple of SaaS pricing page design, but NordVPN added an interesting spin. The banner for the Plus plan changed from “Most Popular” to “Anti-Malware & VPN.”
This is a thoughtful way to use every inch of pricing page real estate purposefully, and will be interesting to see if it drives higher conversion for the Plus plan.
👉🏼 Steal this: Test a new spin on your banner to clearly position a plan around a specific value prop.
4. Offer Seasonal Seats (Taxdome)
Taxdome offers practice management for Tax and Accounting firms, who need flexibility with seats as they staff up during busy season.
On the Pro plan, customers could already add temporary staff at $100/user/mo. Now Business plan customers can add Seasonal Seats for $500/user for 4-months.
I’ve talked to several operators in seasonal industries (e.g., landscaping, home services) looking for creative ways to offer flexibility to customers. Both options from Taxdome are worth a look.
👉🏼 Steal this: Offer flexible seat options to serve customers that don’t need to pay for full seats year-round.
5. Get Creative with Promotions (Anthropic)
Anthropic boosted usage limits for paid users through the holidays. This functions as a discount for existing customers, and is a smart way to drive goodwill and retention.
👉🏼 Steal this: Look for creative opportunities to add value to existing customers without impacting the price on their contract.
